Volunteerism

The success of any venture depends upon the enthusiasm and efforts of the participants. Some activities require a significant commitment of time and effort. Others involve a minimal one-time contribution of time and effort. Some involve the use of your intellect while others may be mundane, backbreaking work. Your special talents could be used on one or more activities. You may work alone or in a group; you may lead or follow. No effort is too small. Each contribution is valuable and necessary to insure the success of this continuing effort to revitalize downtown Eastport.

Please use the Contact section of this web site to choose the easiest ways for you to contact the Downtown Director to volunteer your talents.

Eastport for Pride offers a variety of volunteer activities including:

  • Adopt-a-Street Contact Alice Cates 853-4222 to volunteer to adopt an Eastport street or part of a street or area of our beautiful city. You'll be responsible for seeing that your adopted street is kept clean of litter and unsightly materials. You can do the job alone or coordinate others to help. Alice will assist with seeking assistance for larger projects of removal of materials and clean up. Whether you adopt a section of street in front of several homes or a larger parcel, every effort will insure that Eastport is kept beautiful.
  • Volunteers of all ages encouraged to bring your rakes, shovels, weedwackers, brooms, clippers, wheelbarrows, gloves, etc. and participate in a general cleanup of the downtown Water Street area and waterfront. Meet at Eastport for Pride office, 93 Water Street, Monday, 26 April 2004, at 8:30 AM for Eastport's Earth Day. Please call Alice Cates 853-4222 if you have a truck or special equipment that you believe would be helpful in this effort.
  • Office Assistant: 1 hour per week during hours of 9 AM to noon to allow Downtown Director to leave office to visit businesses. Five volunteers needed for daily coverage.
  • Person to arrange with Highway Department to deliver flower buckets to downtown locations in mid-May.
  • Person or more to obtain planting soil and other necessary materials for flower buckets.
  • Person or more to obtain and plant flowers for flower buckets.
  • Person or more to water and care for flower buckets during summer season.
